The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Government of India-sponsored public service programme under the Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Launched in 1969 during the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi, NSS aims to develop the personality and character of students through community service.
